Get Fly

In the words of Atmosphere, my old childhood dresser just got fly.  I completely redid it and it only took a few hours.  I got the piece when I was 10 years old, and it has served me well.  I didn't want to ditch this faithful dresser, so I just gave it a good paint job and some new knobs.  The piece was painted white after two coats of primer, but the inner front edges were painted navy blue to give it a little character.  I'm digging the brass ring knobs.  I figured they would be pretty easy to come by at Home Depot, but I had a hard time finding them.  I got them from a random online hardware store after a lengthy google search.  I love them!

I haven't figured out how I want to style the dresser and the picture isn't the greatest, but whatever.  I got excited and wanted to show you.  Have a fabulous Thursday!!!!!

Love.

First,  I have the most wonderful husband ever.  He won the Awesome Husband Award twice this week!  Here's why:

  1. We were at the lake this weekend and I dropped my favorite earring right next to the dock.  Boo face.  But my totally sweet huz went diving and searching at the bottom of the lake until he found it.  It was a very pleasing experience.
  2. My brake pads were non-existent and made a hideous rubbing and dragging sound on the way to work.  Mr. W bought me some new ones and spent the evening changing them for me during a severe thunderstorm so I wouldn't have a carless weekend.  Awesomeness...
I love his face more than words can express and its super hot how handy Mr. W is.  Its pretty great getting to be his Mrs.

P.S.

Eye candy for you.  I'll be showing you my version of this soon!

A Yummy Cinco de Mayo Meal

I have been on a break from teaching for the past two weeks, so I have a little more time to whip up something a little more labor intensive than our normal "go to" meals.  Mr. W loves it when I get the urge to cook.  We love to celebrate and we love Mexican food, so why not celebrate Cinco de Mayo with some steak tortillas with pico de gallo, grilled potatoes, and guacamole.  I can't take credit for this recipe though.  I had to try it after eating my brother's amazing take on this meal.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

What I'm Listening to Right Now

This band is just really doing it for me right now.  I heard this song while I was being a hipster at Urban Outfitters and I just had to ask about it.

And a New Chair Too!

There is a little nook under the window that was holding Oscar's dog bed.  It was in need of a little love and character.  All it needed was a funky chair and little side table from T.J. Maxx and this "no man's land" became a vignette!

I couldn't pass up this chair from Goodwill.

A little paint and and some new fabric brought this sad little side chair back to life!

Of course, this little table wouldn't look right without the beautiful yellow daffodils that
my friend Sarah brought me!

Headboard Complete

Well, I finally finished the headboard.  Actually, I finally finished a long while back, but am just now getting around to posting it.  There are a few things you should know about all of this.  First, this project was done with the help of husband and this should be noted as Nate does not usually get into to home makeover projects.  Second, I am a HORRIBLE photographer and I apologize.  Maybe my sister-in-law/photographer will take some better pictures for me the next time she visits.

We started by constructing a frame with 2x1.5 inch pieces of wood.  Whenever you work with wood, you will realize that no matter how many times you have measured and moved the pieces around, it will never perfectly fit together.  It definitely helps to have an angle level.  Wood glue is also a must.

We Nate attached pieces of ply wood to the back of the frame.  You can measure it all out and have the guys at Home Depot cut it for you if you don't have a wood cutter.

Because we had to fit together a few different pieces of plywood, it was important to attach a piece of wood to the back to stabilize it.

The next part was foam.  Surprisingly, foam was the most expensive part of the project!  Who woulda guessed?!  We cut 2" thick foam down to size and stuck inside the frame.

I wrapped my Waverly Williamsburg fabric around and just left the bottom part exposed since it would be hidden by the bed (this is my lazy I don't want to get into sewing problem.) Please excuse the mess of the room.  I take full responsibility.

Then the upholstery nails.  Oh the upsholstery nails!  I put on a really horrible Miley Cyrus movie and went to town.  It took a while and you have to be patient.  You can space them out more than I did too.

It really only took an evening and a little time the next morning to finish all of this!

And here she is in all her shining glory!
